<International Circulation>: What are some of the key sessions that you are looking forward to at ISH 2010?

    Prof. Heagerty: There are several sessions on obesity， diabetes， and the multiple risk factor profiles of medications. Also， there is increasing interest in adipocytes; they are highly metabolically active， they produce substances that are good when we are lean and bad when we are fat， and as a result of that they alter circulation， cause insulin resistance， and cause hypertension. There is a lot of research going on in this area and a lot of it is being reported here. Those are some of my personal interests.

    There is also some interesting public health stuff happening. For instance， there is some work with the WHO， which I am particularly interested in， trying to further the ISH agenda on teaching in the developing world. We are looking towards helping the WHO improve cardiovascular screening in low and middle income countries， principally because they are the areas where heart disease and stroke are going to come next in epidemic proportions as the blood pressures of these people rise as they become more westernized and become overweight from the effects of their diet. This leads me to say that obesity is an interesting topic at this meeting.   

    Heagerty 教授：本次会议内容包括了肥胖，糖尿病，高血压的多重危险因素，基因突变等，此外，分布于脂肪组织的adiposecytes细胞逐渐成为研究热点，这种细胞的代谢极度活跃，当人体内的脂肪含量低时，它们可以产生有益的物质；反之，在肥胖者体内可产生有害物质。因此它们对心血管系统产生影响，引起胰岛素抵抗，诱发高血压；相关的研究正在进行中，有关研究内容也将会在本次会议作报告。这些是我所感兴趣的会议内容。此外还包括一些有趣的公共卫生知识，还有我最关注的与WHO的合作事项，试图在发展中国家推进ISH议程，帮助WHO 加强中低收入国家的心血管病症筛查，因为这些地区人们的饮食西方化，导致人们超重，心脏病和中风发生率逐渐增加，这些地区极可能成为高血压流行高发区。因此，这也就是我要说的，肥胖是本次会议的热点话题。
